Day 1 6.4.2011 - Let the journey begin

                                                                                       Next Day- To Jeffreys Bay

After three busy days in Struisbaai (we store there our entire household) and a last braai with our friends at Seewierstreet we start at 5 o’clock to Somerset West to get the signal lever replaced that broke off stupidly last week. Otherwise we would now probably be far at the road to Mozambique.

St Lucia here we come! Mozambique, we can not wait. This time, the departure is more difficult than in 2009. Nowadays we found many new friends. But we are back in 6 months or so. Certainly than our friends in Cape Town, Franschhoek, Paarl, Noordhoek, Struisbaai, in the Timbavati GR and at Kruger National Park will look surprised that the six months are really over. An extra nice greeting goes from here to Maureen from Cape Agulhas Lighthouse Tourism Office.

We were so lucky with the weather and everything was packed and stored without getting wet. With minimal baggage it goes on the N2. 7 Ammo Boxes accommodate our supplies, cookware, food, up to the toilet paper and the hammocks. On our Africa Journey in 2009, we had at least double stuff. If not more ... ..

Also two backpacks with cameras, video camera, our tent, table and chairs, water containers. The fridge and a "small" box with drinks of all kinds to complete the whole. Each component is now firmly in place. Almost. Yes, you can still be as well prepared, something is always missing, this time's it is our GPS we are missing, and which is now, thanks to the internet and Bolton's GPS Warehouse, on the way and will wait for us in two days in Fort St. Johns at the post office.

The last 2 weeks have been pretty stressful. But now we have a suitable health insurance and car insurance for 6 months, membership at the Flying Doctors East Africa, a Satphone and a data logger are new and the Tireguards for our tires arrived on time. These normally would be just a gimmick, but in the bush the tire pressure monitor system is an invaluable resource.

It can not believe we are on our way. Just passed by Heidelberg (Western Cape, not Germany) on the way to Mossel Bay, our next destination. Africa, we are on the way!

In Mossel Bay we begin our search for a nice place to stay, we first try in the huge Hartenbos Resort, but they ask for 255 Rand for a night, no thanks! A few km outside we find the Dibiki Holiday Resort.

It has South Africa's most beautiful ablutions, there are white towels (for the campers!), even hairdryer, in the small kitchen are in addition to some washing machines and dryer, a fan and there is even an iron. There are hundreds of birds in the trees, unfortunately we can no longer stay than one night.

Km 360, 5 hours, 31 °, sunny, rainy night. R 160 in the ***** Dibiki Holiday Resort

Next Day- To Jeffreys Bay
